Tame Your Inner Critic Voice: Impact of Ennea Type

What’s your Inner Critic voice, the ‘Judge’ say to you?

That ‘Judge’ voice is an unconscious voice with sayings or messages that aren’t accurate. But you accept the voice as yours. Until you learn to stop, pause and discern what’s your real inner voice saying.

The Inner Critic (IC) is often attacking and harsh. Though not always. It can act like an inner moral compass. It tells you what to do, how to be, who you are … or who you are not.

And…. it doesn’t know and show your truth, reality. It’s reacting in an unconscious auto-pilot habit.

For some, the IC voice is a soft whisper and for some it’s a loud harsh voice. Unrelenting.

Your Enneagram type can influence your Inner Voice message. Enneagram type 1s often have a harsh inner critic voice saying “You must be good. Do it perfect.” Or “I must teach others the right way.”

When the Inner Critic Voice speaks, and it will, find your real inner voice. Your truth.

How?

Pause and consider the voice. Who had that Inner Critic voice in your family system, in your cultural or social systems? Ask yourself… “who’s voice is that?”

The Inner Critic Voice is not telling you the truth. Not your real truth.

Certain Inner Critic Voice messages show up stronger for different Enneagram types. Such as:

  • “I’m not enough, or good enough” (Type 1s, 2s).

  • “If you take care of your own needs, you’re selfish. Don’t be selfish.” (Type 2s).

  • “You must keep the peace, be easy and please”. (Type 9s, 2s).

  • “Wining is the most important thing.” (Type 3s).

  • “Be powerful, and don’t show weakness or be vulnerable.” (Type 8s).

A well-regarded book to help tame your Inner Critic is ‘Soul without Shame: A Guide to Liberating Yourself from the Judge Within’. The author is Byron Brown, a well-known Diamond Approach teacher and author. The book explores spiritual and psychological topics such as soul, true nature, personal will, joy, curiosity, compassion, peace and presence.

Find your own voice, tame your Inner Critic.

And, as well-known neurobiologist Dan Siegel says … open to seeing things in curious new ways as a dance, into the ‘plane of possibility’.
